Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
Type 1 diabetes affects all of us. Catherine’s brothers were diagnosed at 5 years old and 16 years old. Her nephew was only 1 year old when they found out he would be insulin dependent for the rest of his life. This foundation does great work helping kids cope and learn to live with diabetes as well as ongoing research to cure Type 1 diabetes.
Guide Dogs for the Blind
Diabetes affects eyesight. Catherine’s brother went blind at 32 years-old due in large part to his disease. He got his independence back when he was assigned a seeing eye dog and he is now on his third dog at age 48. It is truly amazing watching how a trained dog can give back a person’s confidence, connection and freedom.
